Fall Weekend 2013 Recap

Last Friday, over 200 high schoolers from Alamance County traveled four hours to Carolina Point, a brand new Young Life camp in Brevard, N.C., for this year’s Fall Weekend!

Weary high schoolers came alive as soon as they saw the shining lights on the beautiful camp property. Getting off the bus, they rushed to explore all that Carolina Point had to offer. Soon after, everybody joined in the Club Room for the first Club of the weekend! Surry County Young Life Area Director Eric Leathers served as the camp speaker and delivered a great message about who Jesus really is. His talk created plenty of conversation in Cabin Time!

On Saturday morning, high schoolers woke up early to make the most of their only full day at Carolina Point! Throughout the day, kids zoomed through the air on the zip line course, played basketball, shopped at the camp store, and some even took the brave plunge into the frigid lake! We had two clubs in one day, and the last Club was followed by the kids spending 15 minutes in the silent peace of the night to think about Eric’s talk.

On Sunday, Ryan Eaton announced that this summer’s camp trip to Sharptop Cove will take place from June 15-22! Flyers were given out at All-County Club on Monday. If you didn’t receive one, contact one of your leaders and say that you want to experience the BEST WEEK OF YOUR LIFE!

Thanks to everybody who came to Carolina Point this past weekend! We hope it was the best week of your life!

The party is just getting started!

Nov. 4: All-County Halloween Leftovers Club

Halloween Leftovers

Tonight, yes, tonight, we’re having Halloween Leftovers All-County Club at 7:27 at the Scout Hut! Yes, it’s November. Yes, Halloween was four days ago. BUT EVERYONE LOVES LEFTOVERS! Come dressed in your Halloween costume of choice, bring your friends dressed in their Halloween costumes of choice, and get ready for the BEST NIGHT OF YOUR WEEK!

Oct. 28: Dodgeball Tournament

There is no school on Monday, so we won’t have Club, but come join us for a Dodgeball Tournament at 7:30 p.m. at the YMCA! You can create a team of 10 (must have three girls). Team uniforms would be awesome too!

Plus, we’re leaving for CAROLINA POINT on Friday, so get your camp forms and money ready to give to one of your leaders! The BEST WEEKEND OF YOUR LIFE awaits you!

Oct. 21: Neon Club – Talk Notes

Neon Club: Susannah Haynie – John 8:3-11

Main Point: Jesus’ love for us is bigger than our expectations

Challenge: How do you expect God to respond to you? Jesus shows us that God wants the best for us; He does not let the story end how we expect it to, but works all things for good. This week, turn your thoughts to how God might be working situations in your life in an unpredictable, but GOOD way. Do you believe He has compassion on you?

John 8:3-11 – Jesus forgives an adulterous woman

  • A woman was caught cheating on her husband – the penalty for this in Jesus’ time was to be stoned to death
  • A crowd brought the woman to Jesus, and the natural way this story would have ended is with Jesus commanding her to be stoned
  • Instead, Jesus silently bent down and began to write on the ground with His finger
  • He tells the crowd that if any one of them has been perfect their whole life, they should be the one who throws the first stone at the woman who cheated on her husband
  • One by one, the crowd dispersed. Jesus told the woman that He would not condemn her, just like the crowd didn’t
  • In a response to Jesus’ grace for the woman, He tells her to stop her life of sin. He had compassion for the woman; He was not there to condemn her but to set her free

What does this mean for us?

  • We can turn to Jesus in times when we feel trapped by life and know that He greets us with compassion, love, grace, and forgiveness
  • When we think we know the outcome of a situation, we can rest assured that Jesus can work situations in an unexpected but GOOD way

Do you believe that God’s love for you is bigger than your expectations?
